Alexander School Playground
Alexander Elementary teacher, Shanan Heline, spoke to our club today about the the boundless playground the district was raising money for and would soon become a reality. The total cost of the project is estimated to be close to $132,000.

A barrier-free playground is one that is accessible to all children. Features include swings with back support, a merry-go-round where those in a wheelchair can be strapped in, wheelchair ramps and a rubberized surface that is firm but forgiving.

Other features can include a multi-person rocker and elevated surfaces like sand tables. Staff from the school began launching multiple different fundraisers. They started collecting cans and bottles, drawing inspiration from a similar fundraiser from another local non-profit

They also made T-shirts, stickers and decals and donated the money they made from the sales, as well as money made from selling Scentsy products, which is a fragrance multilevel marketing company. They started a Facebook page where people could donate items that would be auctioned off, too. They are very close to raising the necessary monies to complete the project, Shanan said.

Update - Yours Truly summarized the ZOOM meeting with members of the committee on April 13. Aaron Hacker has graciously pulled together the graphics we need to post on line so people can register. Nate Smith then came forward and reminded members that this was our biggest fundraiser this year! The date - Saturday, September 18! He then handed out a concise fundraising letter he and Chair Carrie Dillon signed so we can personally hand them out to prospective supporters of this year's event.

Our lead sponsor is Auto Owners Insurance and an anonymous donor has pledged $2,000 to be used as a matching gift for new donors participating.

In the package was a commitment form and a separate list of sponsors last year. He encouraged everyone to do their part and solicit other donors. For those of you not at yesterday's regular meeting, be on the lookout for a packet of these materials to be sent out soon. Nate said he would send everyone an email to let them know who has been contacted already so that we don't duplicate an "ask" or you can let him know when you contact someone yourself.
