Stories
Melissa Growden is the Director of Student Achievement & Academic Success Career Services at Siena Heights University who gave members a taste of the “Art of Mixing and Mingling” presentation she repeated for students from Siena Heights University, Adrian and Jackson College immediately following our meeting today. Among the topics presented were: How to make a positive 1st impression, Introductions, handshakes, body language, personal space, verbal & non-verbal messages and the mportance of developing a positive, succinct "elevator speech".

Some 50 students attended the afternoon program which ran from 1-3pm in conjunction with the Adrian Town & Crown Committee. Chuck Jacobson, manager of International Diamonds in Adrian kicked the program off and introduced Mayor Berryman who gave opening remarks. Rotary volunteers were placed at various tables with students who participated in role plays with others at their table throughout the program.

A break for refreshments (underwritten by our club) allowed students to apply what their learned during the program. I think everyone would agree that it was well worth everyone's time learning about skills that are so critical to a person's overall development particularly students who are about to graduate. The job market is extremely tight and, as we all know, it will be the person who sets him or herself apart from the rest who will be successful beginning and advancing their careers. Thanks to all who volunteered to assist with this important project which will, no doubt, continue in the future! Thanks Mark & Mary for pulling everyone together!
