Club Assembly - Membership Survey
Today, of course, was another Club Assembly and our focus was on what members felt about our club. I can't remember the last time we polled members so timing was appropriate. Members spent approximately 15 minutes completing the Membership Survey whose results will be tallied and shared with members at a subsequent meeting.
Members answered questions in the following categories: Overall satisfaction with their membership in Rotary, projects/participation, weekly meetings, communication & responsiveness by the club, the value of their membership, club engagement, and costs.
For those who were not at today's meeting, we will be making surveys available for completion and will figure those findings into the overall tally. The purpose of the survey, of course, is to identifyb areas that our club can make the necessary improvements in an effort to make what our club does interesting and relevant ans to satisfy members' needs to put service above self!
Purity – Purity needs to find work over the next several months this summer during her break at SHU so if you know of someone hiring please contact Patty Clark. Purity loves working with children, Thanks.
RI Foundation – Remember - $2,400 has been raised toward a goal of $6,583. If you have not already, please contribute to this worthy cause which allows our club to apply for district grants. If we get within $1,000 of the goal, a donor has come forward and said they will contribute that amount! If you have not already, please contribute before the middle of June so we can get the money to the District.
Rotary Scholarships – AG Mary reported that our club presented 2 scholarships at last Sunday’s ceremony at Adrian College. A total of 389 scholarships ($500,000+) were given out to deserving students that afternoon! Karis Blaker, recipient of our 4-Way Test $1,000 scholarship, wrote a nice note to us thanking us for selecting her. She will be attending the u of M this fall.  Taylor received the $1,000 Robert Brady Scholarship and will be attending SHU this fall. The club wishes to thank Mary and Tanya White for their hard work on the interview and selection process. Couldn’t have done it without you!
Strokes For Students golf outing was held on Monday, May 16th. Even though it was cold start to the day, everyone had a great time except Kathy Williams who may have thrown a hip out!  What she wouldn’t do for this club. Pres Rod said Rotary did not win however.
REMEMBER: DisCon 2016 - First timers interested in attending this year’s DisCon (June 23-26 in Kalamazoo) should know that subsidies are available through our club ($250) as well as the District ($150). Please contact any club officer if you are interested. Rod mentioned again that our club will host a hospitality suite at the conference. We need volunteers!
Onion Sales – If you did not hand in your money, please do so by next meeting.
DG Wayne Titus’ Volunteer Hour Collection Worksheet – DG Wayne still wants each of us to track hours, both Rotarian-related and non-Rotarian-related that we give of ourselves in service to others. They should include direct hours worked as well as planning and development time. We will be surveying members again about June 1.
Adaptive Wheelchair for ERaceStigma - Please visit: The club donated $500 toward a new wheelchair for this race.
Rotarian of the Year Applications – Forms are still available from Rod or Chuck. Please complete one and nominate a deserving member to receive this award which will be announced at our Changeover Dinner on June 30.
Exchange Student - Here is a photo taken at the AM Club yesterday. Kevin Keller and his exchange student, Sebastian, who has been staying with him and his wife, Deb, spoke to the club.
May 20 – Fluency Friends Open House – AG Mary reminded members of the breakfast at the Michener School Library from 9am-10am to celebrate our accomplishments this year. All FF will be joined by the children that read to them – over 60 in all!! Mary also reminded volunteers to be sure and complete the survey. The club again made a donation of $1,200 to purchase books for the library they started at the school. All children who participated will keep 3 books from the library they can take home with them this summer and read and keep!
May 213rd Day Farm Project Worker Bee – President Rod once again urged as many members as possible to attend this event from 10am-12noon at the field just west of Bethany Assembly of God. A sign-up sheet was passed around. Prez Rod guarantees sunny weather!
May 22EraceStigma 5k Run – Nate made an announcement for Greg Adams, chair of this weekend’s event and updated members on the event. Those Rotarians who have volunteered to help at the Kid’s Dash that morning need to be at the site by 8:30 that day. They need to be at the Farmer’s Market on Toledo Street. Greg would like a few more volunteers. The Dash is not expected to take long at all. Overall, there should be 350-400 runners in both races! Great job, Greg!! Please contact him at 734-679-5295 if you can help.
