Changeover Dinner 2016
All we can say is that if you were not able to attend this year's Changeover Dinner at Rhonda and Bob's home, you missed one heck of a party! The weather was picture perfect, the crowd was awesome, the food was delicious and the location - superb! Thanks to the Gage's for hosting this memorable event! Thanks to everyone who helped set up and tear down and brought food. Thanks also to DG Sue and PDG Bruce Goldsen for attending what must have been a string of inductions for clubs around this district! Not only did they recently arrive back from the International Convention in Seoul, the Meet the Governor Night in Harrow as well as several club induction ceremonies across this district, they were at ours and that was VERY SPECIAL indeed.

I am attaching a couple of collages of our event last Thursday evening, June 30. It was a great evening with AM Club members and congrats to all who were selected and received very deserving awards that evening. (See collages for more on this). Thanks to Immediate Past President, Rod, and his board and officers for a great year. It will be one that we'll yet capitalize on this coming year. We look forward to our two newest board members each serving 3-year terms , Kevin Marti and Greg Adams who will be part of their very first board meeting next week, July 7.

Thanks to Assistant Governor, Mary Murray, who served as emcee for the evening, to Mark for securing a piano, to Nancy Herr for her accompaniment and to Mike Herr for the sound equipment. Thanks to my wife, Linda, Bob Gordon and Dave Maxwell for taking photos of the afternoon's proceedings.

We should be very proud of our accomplishments as clubs in District 6400 this past year, of DG Sue from the AM Club, of our district 6400 and the folks who are the driving force behind it, of RI in general who do so much good in this world. Be sure and visit District 6400's new website at www.rotary6400.org - it is really impressive.

At our first club meeting of the new year next week, we'll have some exciting news to present along with a presentation on the Fluency Friends Program this past school year. Remember to bring a guest to lunch and share more about what our clubs are doing to SERVE HUMANITY while FOLLOWING OUR HEARTS in our community and around the world. Here's to another great year!!!! Thanks to each and everyone in advance for your commitment and efforts in 2016-17!!

One Rotary Summit – AG Mary announced that any and all members are welcome to attend this annual event at Schoolcraft College in Livonia. Guest speaker will be RI VP, Jennifer Jones. Registration will be at 4:45pm on September 8th followed by dinner. Please contact Chuck if you would like to attend. Mary also said that DG Sue is encouraging all clubs to be sure and post information about club events and happenings on www.newsat6400.org. The more info, the better!

District 6400 Newsletter - AG Mary mentioned the great district newsletter available at: http://rotary6400.org/?page_id=301 . All members should be receiving this automatically every month. If not, it might be a problem with the member’s information on DACdb. For assistance accessing your info, please contact Yours Truly.

Blessings & More Open House – Kathy Williams announced that today was the grand opening of the organization launching its new bailer for clothing it takes in. Proceeds from this operation will go toward funding its Women’s & Children Shelter soon-to-be-built in the near future.

Chamber Update – John B. spoke about a couple of things the Chamber is involved with: Senior Lifestyle Expo this Saturday at the Adrian Mall Center Court from 10am -2 pm; then on Monday, August 8 - the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 pm at the former Garfield’s site – the new S&B Burger’s Restaurant at 1357 South Main Street, at the Adrian Mall!

Random Acts of Kindness – Ambassador, AG Mary Murray, shared with members an opportunity she had at work to spread a little kindness to someone deserving. Whether you’re out and about or at work, do something kind for someone before next week's meeting! Take the cards Mary handed out with you just in case! For more info, go to www.rotary6400kindness.com

Bottle Cap Program – As a reminder, Mike Olsaver would still like all bottle caps as you have them to turn in at each meeting. They will be recycle to provide plastic benches at Michener Elementary.

Need for Paper Products – REMEMBER that the food pantries in the area are in real need of paper products (paper towels, toilet paper, feminine hygiene products). Patty Clark has been encouraging all of us to donate these to our favorite charities. Patty suggested this could be a program for the Interclub Council to consider and come up with a fundraising drive to generate enough revenue to supply these immediate needs.

Passport Program – The following members will be visiting 2 of the clubs in the District next month: Tecumseh Club Visit (August 9 at 12 noon at Evans Street Station) – Nate Smith, Mike Olsaver, Kathy Williams, Jesse Pizana, John B, Rhonda Gage and Helen Bendes.

Visiting the AM Club on Wednesday morning August 10 at LCS will be Helen Bendes, Mary Murray, Rhonda Gage, Kathye Herrera, Kevin Marti and Yours Truly.  Mary Murray has the official Passport each group will need to take with them for proper credit. Thanks to all who signed up!

The official Passport was presented along with club flags that will be presented to each of the club’s presidents at the time of the visit. Thanks to Nelson Douglass for bringing in 3 of them!

New Prospect Brochure – Revisions have been made and sent to each board member for review. It will then go to the printers and distributed to all members to hand out to prospective members they talk with.

Numerous family activities have also been planned. Be sure and go to support this club!

August 22 - Par For Hope Golf Tournament – The Neighbors of Hope will be sponsoring a golf outing at the Lenawee Country Club on August 22nd. Each golfer will be charged $50 and also be asked to bring in another $50 form a willing donor. Proceeds will be used to purchase the house on Broad Street and the new Women’s & Children’s Shelter the organization is getting closer to securing. Kathy hopes that a couple of teams from our club will enter to play. Please contact Kathy Williams if you or your organization would be interested in supporting this great cause.

September 24 – Annual River Raisin Cleanup – Mark Murray, chair, informed members of the upcoming project in September. It has turned into a community-wide project thanks to Mark. It is also designed to inform residents of the great resource we have in the River Raisin. A lot of the river has effectively disappeared due to the obstructions in and around it. Yet is still remains a great resource in our city. Our club along with the City of Adrian, Connecting Lenawee, the River Raisin Watershed Council will again be teaming up to help clean up  and do our part again this year next month. Mark mentioned that a group called AmeriServes will be coming in ahead of our cleanup for some 4-6 weeks to clean the river from one end to the other. Long term, Mark said, it would be his hope that people could actually kayak that distance one day. He closed by reminding members that our club should be proud of its commitment the past 10 years of being good stewards of this river and not be bashful about taking credit for doing so! More info/details coming.
