 Anne Sherman introduced her colleague from Hospice of Lenawee, Jada Phillips - head of their Community Outreach Program, who was our speaker today. She began her presentation by handing out a few items one of which were a list of "Myths About Hospice". Jada said that regardless of the Hospice people use, they want to provide the best care possible. A loved one's Hospice stay, she said, could vary according to the diagnosis. The stay is covered exclusively by Medicare. When someone calls to use the facility, the staff check to see if there might be a facility closer yet the Hospice of Lenawee doe accommodate patients within a 35 mile radius. They have a fulltime Medical Director, Dr. Justin Voorhees, who is of course Kevin Keller's Son-in-Law! He is also known to visit patients in their homes but his office is on the campus off of Wolf Creek Highway. Should patients choose, they can use their private physician. Jada distributed a "2020 CHAPS Scores" which listed how the local Hospice stacks up against other healthcare providers and all scores exceeded those listed bin terms of Overall Rating of Patient Care, Communication with Family, Getting Timely Help, etc. 2021 figures, she said, will be out soon.
