Stories
Junior Rotarian Day
Today was a blast from the past as 7 Junior Rotarians from this past year were on hand to run today’s meeting! What an admirable job they did, too. Thanks to Gerry Burg for making all of the arrangements and coaching them through what each person did during the meeting.

Joel Hill (U of T) served as President and ring leader. He was joined by Gavin Stepansky (will be attending Saginaw State University this fall), Matt Baucher (Northwood University), Hannah Lopez (U of M), James Nicholson (MSU), Matt Tombo (U of T) and Mitchell Dempsey (Central Michigan University).

They, of course, went wild with the fine session collecting as much as they possibly could while they had the chance! District 6400 Webmaster, Jim Karolyi, was on hand to video tape just about all of the meeting and took a couple of group photos just before we adjourned. It was a great time and we wish to thank everyone who was involved.

UPDATES
Purity – Purity needs to find work over the next several months this summer during her break at SHU so if you know of someone hiring please contact Patty Clark. Purity loves working with children, Thanks.

RI Foundation – Remember - $2,400 has been raised toward a goal of $6,583. If you have not already, please contribute to this worthy cause which allows our club to apply for district grants. If we get within $1,000 of the goal, a donor has come forward and said they will contribute that amount! If you have not already, please contribute before the middle of June so we can get the money to the District.

Rotary Scholarships – AG Mary reported that our club presented 2 scholarships at last Sunday’s ceremony at Adrian College. A total of 389 scholarships ($500,000+) were given out to deserving students that afternoon! Karis Blaker, recipient of our 4-Way Test $1,000 scholarship, wrote a nice note to us thanking us for selecting her. She will be attending the u of M this fall.  Taylor received the $1,000 Robert Brady Scholarship and will be attending SHU this fall. The club wishes to thank Mary and Tanya White for their hard work on the interview and selection process. Couldn’t have done it without you!

Strokes For Students golf outing was held on Monday, May 16th. Even though it was cold start to the day, everyone had a great time except Kathy Williams who may have thrown a hip out!  What she wouldn’t do for this club. Pres Rod said Rotary did not win however.

REMEMBER: DisCon 2016 - First timers interested in attending this year’s DisCon (June 23-26 in Kalamazoo) should know that subsidies are available through our club ($250) as well as the District ($150). Please contact any club officer if you are interested. Rod mentioned again that our club will host a hospitality suite at the conference. We need volunteers!

Onion Sales – If you did not hand in your money, please do so by next meeting.

DG Wayne Titus’ Volunteer Hour Collection Worksheet – DG Wayne still wants each of us to track hours, both Rotarian-related and non-Rotarian-related that we give of ourselves in service to others. They should include direct hours worked as well as planning and development time. We will be surveying members again about June 1.

Adaptive Wheelchair for ERaceStigma - Please visit: gofundme.com/j7wpedmk The club donated $500 toward a new wheelchair for this race.

Rotarian of the Year Applications – Forms are still available from Rod or Chuck. Please complete one and nominate a deserving member to receive this award which will be announced at our Changeover Dinner on June 30.

Exchange Student - Here is a photo taken at the AM Club yesterday. Kevin Keller and his exchange student, Sebastian, who has been staying with him and his wife, Deb, spoke to the club.
