SPECIAL REMARKS MADE BY OUR PRESIDENT TODAY

Before we start this meeting, I would like to make a statement about what has been going on this last week and I would say that my goal as president of this club was to have a vibrant, diverse and involved membership and with this goal, change is required.

I know change is never easy but it was never my intention to harass, bully or overstep my office. If I have offended or hurt any member here, I sincerely apologize.

I am passionate, no doubt, and my over-zealous personality might not be my strongest trait. I consider each of you my friend. The success of this club is important to me. I ask that each of us take a step back and a deep breath and reflect on how best to have a positive impact on our community and club.

I intend for the next five months of my presidency to be positive moving forward with grace and ask you to be part of the process with me. Thanks to each of you for your service as we all live the Rotary creed and motto “Service Above Self”.

I also want to apologize officially to Kathy about the table although I should have done that more gracefully than what I did a few months ago. So, Kathy, I apologize.
PROGRAM
President Chip continued and reported that he attended a virtual Mid-Year President's Meeting last night along with many other club presidents across District 6400. He said the topic revolved around "How to make people feel important". It was suggested that to do this, one might say something like "I like your style" or "I believe in you" or "You're a very impressive person" or "I like your skill set" and be sure and use their name.

The question "Who is the most important Rotarian" was posed to which the answer is "The next one" or the one that IS not a member yet which, by the way our own Rod Pender gave. Another question that was posed TO THE GROUP, HE SAID, was: "Who is the biggest critic of our club?" Chip said that they will be our guests, visitors and even speakers who are invited to speak and even guest Rotarians. First impression, he said, are so important. Make everyone feel welcome.

President Chip concluded by handing out a sheet titled "Start Your Club on a Path to Vibrancy". that listed a number of things we do not do in our club but that it will be so important to begin revisions of our by-laws and he is ready to tackle that along with creating job descriptions for all of our committee chairs and officers.

We'd like to thank Courtney and her wonderful staff for hosting us during this time.
