Kathy Sielsky, Reading Specialist at Michener Elementary presented a recap of a very successful year partnering with our club! She thanked all members who volunteered from our club and said that this past year exceeded her expectations. Kathy said that over 160 hours of extra reading practice was provided by Rotarian volunteers and that 72% of those students made their projected growth goal on the nwea assessment! The Noon Club purchased over 500 books – each student selected 5 books to keep and read over the summer. The remainder of the books were shared with summer school students and were added to the “fluency friends library”. In each of the books was a label stating “Compliments of the Adrian Noon Rotary Club”.

First Club Assembly of the New Year
Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday that Rod Pender took to the podium to reign in his new year as Prez! Now, I guess, it’s my turn! As we begin a new year I reminded members that anyone who is recruited as a member of the cub between July 1 and October 1 of this new year, they and their sponsor will travel to Plymouth on November 11 to be officially inducted by none other thank RI President John Germ! What an opportunity. Nate commented that so far we should have at least 6 new inductees!
AG Mary Murray announced DG Sue Goldsen’s Random Act of Kindness program which fits right in with her theme this year – Follow Your Hear. What a great way to show your Rotary compassion as we Serve Humanity!
Yours Truly thn reported on the particulars of the District’s new Passport program where members around the district are encouraged to visit other clubs and view firsthand what other clubs are doing and how they run their meetings. A schedule of club meetings was handed out and a sign-up sheet will be passed around next week for those who want to attend another club’s meeting.
Nate and Kathy will be launching the New Prospect Recruiting Brochure next week and Amy Pyle will be showing what months of work on our new website have produced geared to the next generation of Rotary Club members. You won’t want to miss this meeting.

Bottle Cap Program – As a reminder, Mike Olsaver would still like all bottle caps as you have them to turn in at each meeting. They will be recycle to provide plastic benches at Michener Elementary.
Passport Program –Still looking for members who would like to visit another club within driving distance as part of the district’s Passport Program. A minimum of 4 members are required.
New Prospect Brochure – Brochures were passed out at today's meeting. If you were not able to attend, be sure and get a handful at the next meeting.
Special Meal Considerations - We wanted to ask any member who might have food restrictions to let us know what they are so that we can inform the Country Club staff when preparing weekly meals. We will be passing around a sheet at next week's meeting on which to record your name and specific restrictions.

August 27 – REMEBER - The Chamber along with other businesses downtown will host new students who will be incoming freshmen at Adrian College, Siena Heights University and Jackson College. The club is helping out financially, coolers will be set out with refreshment, games will be available, etc. Come on down to downtown on Saturday, August 27th at 5pm in front of the Chamber offices on South Main Street!
September 1 - 4th Annual Taste of Adrian and Job Fair event. Barry Reinink announced last week that Siena Heights University is inviting local storefront businesses on campus to provide students with a “Taste of Adrian.” The fourth annual event is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 1 in Benincasa Hall. There is no cost for businesses to attend, but businesses are encouraged to bring samples, coupons, giveaways and other items that showcase their offerings. Also businesses with part-time employment opportunities are also encouraged to attend. Pre-registration is required. Deadline is Aug. 29.
September 7 – Barry also announced a SHU Engage Event which is targeted to students who are already very engaged in campus activities who may wish to be part of the university’s new Rotaract Club start-up much like the one at Adrian College. All Rotarians are invited to attend.
September 8 – Off site meeting at the Lenawee Center for the Arts on the former Adrian Training School property. Box lunches will be on hand following a tour of the main office and arts grounds. A sign-up sheet was passed around as it will be next week as well. THERE WILL BE NO MEETING AT THE COUNTRY CLUB THAT DAY - IT WILL BE INSTEAD AT THE OLD TRAINING SCHOOL PROPERTY!
September 8 – District 6400 One Rotary Summit – Nate and Chuck are the only ones signed up to attend thus far. If interested in attending, please contact Yours Truly at chaslin1@comcsat.net
September 15 – REMEMBER - Official visit by District Governor, Sue Goldsen, to our club. The board will meet with her at 11am that morning and make a presentation during the regular meeting that day. Please be sure and attend.
September 16 & 17 – Annual Art-A-Licious – The date is fast approaching. The club will host a beer and wine tent again this year and will be in a different location than in the past due to the construction at the Croswell. He’ll be needing a good number of volunteers for this 2-day event. Brent is the chair of the event again this year. Sign up to help out.
September 24 – Annual River Raisin Cleanup – (Mark Murray, chair). The location this year will be Island Park. A sign-up sheet was passed around. You are encouraged to bring as many other people with you as you can to this event. The more the merrier! Last year the volunteers totaled 110-120. The event will run from 9am-1pm.
October 3 - District Governor Golf Outing – Walnut Creek Country Club, 25501 Johns Road, South Lyon, MI. Lunch begins at 11am; Shotgun Start: 12:30pm – Dinner following. Lunch/Golf/Dinner - $175 per person; Dinner only - $55. You can sign up just to eat if you’d like. RSVP or Questions to rotary6400@gmail.com
November 10 - Million Dollar Legacy Dinner - The Rotary Foundation will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year and District 6400 will celebrate in style with a Legacy Dinner on Thursday, November 10th, 2016 at the Inn at St. Johns in Plymouth, MI. The honored guests at this event will be Rotary International President John Germ and Rotary International Vice President Jennifer Jones. You can get involved and join in our celebration by pledging a gift to the Rotary Foundation over the next 3 years. It can be an Annual gift, Bequest Society Gift or other areas. They are asking you to consider an increase in your current level and if you are close to a major donor level or to a next one, get there during this special celebration! November 11 - Membership Luncheon with RI President John Germ - All new members who have been inducted since July 1 need to note on their calendars the date of November 11. On that day they and their sponsors will need to be in Plymouth to be officially inducted by RI President John Germ. More details will follow. We have secured a van but need someone holding a CDL to drive it that day. Please let Yours Truly know if you have ona nd are free to drive that day. Thanks.
December 31 - New Year's Eve Gala Event 2016. Are you ready? I know it's a ways off but we cannot emphasize enough how important this program will be to our club again this year. We want to plant a seed early enough in the year to alert members that we will need everyone's help pulling this super fundraiser off for the 4th year in a row. We will be promoting this program from this point on in the bulletin. Some big changes - ticket prices will now be $25 each - that's a huge 50% reduction! A new dance band will be on hand to play that evening. Super items will be up for auction like in past years. Great food and drinks will also be served including an assortment of finger foods and tasty desserts. Think of family members, friends, business associates or anyone else you will want to invite to make this another fun and successful program for the Adrian Noon Rotary Club!

GUESTS: Marje Simay, guest of her hubby, Greg. Marje (pictured below with Greg) was inducted as a new member at today's meeting. Marje and Greg moved to Adrian from Burbank, CA recently where Greg (recently inducted as a new member himself) had been an active member of the Burbank Sunrise Rotary Club and Marje had been active in various charitable organizations. Marje is a retired Registered Nurse. Great to have you part of our club, Marje. Within the past 3 weeks the club has inducted 4 new members with one more on the way!! Don't forget to invite a prospect to lunch and be sure and give them a copy of our New Prospect Brochure!!
