Steve May, Executive Director of the River Raisin Watershed Council, shared these interesting facts with us: The entire watershed is approximately 1,072 square miles - roughly the size of the state of Rhode Island. The River Raisin is approximately 150 miles long. As of 2010, the watershed was home to 178,577 people.
The watershed contains areas of five Michigan Counties: Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw, Jackson, Hillsdale, and a portion of Fulton County Ohio. The watershed contain approximately 429 lakes and ponds. The watershed contains 3,000 miles of man-made drainage systems. It contains 22 mainstem dams and 38 tributary dams. It is said to be the world's "crookedest river."
2016-17 projects scheduled include an assessment of the south branch since a stretch of 4.5 miles found 95 obstructions and 38 unnavigable areas. New funding coming from the Farmers Advisory Committee will amount to $480k!
Following Steve’s presentation, he gave away a Watershed T-shirt and cap.

Youth Exchange – REMEMBER - The Herr’s from the Morning Club are hosting the newest Exchange Student, Andrea (On-dray-ah) from Mexico who attends Madison HS and they would be grateful if anyone of us could keep her in mind when doing something she might want to be involved in during her stay here in this country. She is having a bit of difficulty adjusting and the more exposure she could have with others, the better. Please let Mary know if and when you might have time to include Andrea in any of your family plans. Thank you.

Perfect Participation Requirements – Secretary Allen informed all members via e-mail on this issue. Here is what he said: With all of the opportunities to serve our Club this time of year, I want to encourage you to make Perfect Participation a goal if you are able. Any time you invest in the spirit of Rotary can be applied toward your qualification. More time consuming activities earn credit for multiple credits. 50 total between July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 (including regular club meetings) count toward that. Just write down your activities at the attendance table.
RI Foundation Giving Levels – Anyone who would like to know what the status of their giving is to contact Chair Mike Olsaver as he has all that information.
Passport Program – Still want to organize a trip to the Windsor-Roseland club after the first of the year. Let us know if you're interested.
Purity - Rhonda told members that the money the club provides her on a monthly basis has been used to purchase textbooks. She is in need of other items including a new computer. We will therefore be taking up a collection for her at our meeting next week as well as for the wait staff at the Country Club.
