Solid Waste & Material Management Program Coordinator
Program Chair, Londa Pickles, introduced our speaker today - Julie Marr. Julie shared much info with us about her position with Lenawee County Government. She said that she is responsible for managing the county's solid waste and materials management program, which includes developing a new state-mandated materials management plan. This plan will outline waste diversion goals, recycling goals, and strategies for managing organic waste.
Julie is also involved in conducting public surveys to understand resident needs and preferences for recycling and waste diversion. She also promotes reuse initiatives and provides information on food and yard waste composting.
Developing and implementing the county's new materials management plan, which is mandated by the state of Michigan.
Among her responsibilities are: Tracking the amount of garbage produced in the county and ensuring proper disposal, providing waste diversion opportunities, such as the recycling drop-off site and community collection events, promoting reuse initiatives and providing information on food and yard waste composting. making the materials management planning process transparent and digestible for the public, working with the Materials Management Committee to develop the state-required work plan and conducting surveys to understand resident needs and preferences for recycling and waste diversion.

ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINATIONS
REMEMBER: It's that time again where you have the opportunity to nominate a deserving member to be ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR who will be presented this coveted award at our Changeover Banquet in June! President Carrie handed out written copies of the nomination form with criteria (See below)
Selection Criteria
The following provides the selection criteria for the Rotarian of the Year Award. Nominees will be evaluated on the basis of these criteria.
The Rotarian of the Year shall be in good standing with the Adrian Rotary Club. Membership and meal dues must be paid up to date. Level of attendance will be considered also.
The Rotarian of the Year shall have a minimum of 2 years membership in the Adrian Rotary Club.
The Rotarian of the Year shall be or have been in a leadership role in the Adrian Rotary Club, i.e. committee chairperson, Board of Director, Officer in the Club, etc.
The Rotarian of the Year shall demonstrate the Rotary objective - Service Above Self and to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
Meet professional standards and those of The 4-Way Test.
The Rotarian of the Year shall be active in the community and be an example to all of what it is to be a Rotarian.
The Rotarian of the Year shall be an example of volunteerism inside, as well as, outside the Rotary Club.

MICHENER ELEMENTARY GOING TO THE ZOO
Gerry announced that about 45 3rd graders will be going to the Toledo Zoo on May 15!! 40 have NEVER been out of Adrian, Gerry added. He, Bob, Michele and Grace will serve as chaperones.
LENAWEE BIKE TOUR
PE Bob said we are going ahead with plans. ZOOM meeting next Tuesday. Will be tweaking the proposal that Jacob Cooper drafted. Every member is asked to start thinking about potential sponsors. There will be a new "2500 level this year! T-Shirts will be available and signage is being worked on.
FLUENCY FRIENDS OPEN HOUSE
Mary announced the Annual Open House which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 at the Michener Elementary Library. Everyone is invited. Starts at 8:30AM. Thanks to everyone who was a FLUENCY FRIEND this past year!
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
Mary thanked everyone who served on the selection committee - Gerry Burg, Londa Pickles, Yours Truly and Catherine Sala. Candidates have been selected and submitted.

Chip announced the HEH Packing project - looking to nail down a date in May - possibly a Tuesday or Thursday
Yours Truly mentioned a need for a spring cleanup at the Neighbors of Hope's Men's Ministry of Riverside - Date in May will be selected.
NEXT CLUB SOCIALS
Michele announced another trip to the Spotted Cow either May 20 or 21 - stay tuned. For June, the social will be a round of miniature golf in Tecumseh at Stone Mountain starting about 6pm with ice cream. More info coming.

ADRIAN'S BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Stephanie also announced last meeting this celebration and will be looking for volunteers. It will be a Parade of Homes event. They will need "docents" (tour guides or just to greet patrons arriving and check off names) with Rotary shirts on! It is scheduled for Saturday, July 5th and Sunday, July 6th. Proceeds go to the Adrian Center for the Arts. More info coming.
