Lenawee Now - Tim Robinson
Director of Operations and former member of this club, Tim Robinson, presented a PowerPoint slide show with an emphasis on the organization’s primary focus – talent recruitment while still attracting businesses to the county. Tim showed a professionally-produced market video touting the benefits of living and working in Lenawee.

According to their website: Lenawee Now is a non-profit organization dedicated to economic and business expansion throughout Lenawee County. By attracting new businesses, helping to grow established businesses, and supporting entrepreneurial endeavors in Lenawee, Lenawee Now is creating an economically viable and vibrant region. In addition to business attraction, retention and start-up activities, Lenawee Now provides critical services to support business growth including access to funding sources and talent enhancement. Lenawee Now is formerly known as the Lenawee Economic Development Corporation.

Talent recruitment and developing entrepreneurs is much more sustainable, Tim said, as opposed to simply attract smoke stack companies. Not keeping the pipeline full of qualified talent has been a drawback to cities, counties and states across the nation, Tim said. After WWII people returned to work at Ford Motor Company. Consequently they were in a position that they didn’t need any more people.

Partnerships with various agencies have been very important, he said, as well as effective in the past few years. Those agencies include Michigan Works, RGP in Ohio, etc. Tim referenced a survey conducted to identify if more employees live in and around the company they work for or do they drive a fair distance to go to work. They found that the latter was the case.

Lenawee Now, Tim said, Is part of the Greater Ann Abor Region – Lenawee, Hillsdale, Washtenaw, Jackson, Monroe, and Livingston County.
