TODAY'S PROGRAM

Club member and Siena Heights University administrator Cindy Sutherland introduced Tina Matz who will head up the newest department at SHU – Workforce Development as Assistant VP of Workforce Development Partnerships.

Tina came to SHU from Jackson College where she has 14 years of experience in Workforce Development and has worked extensively with Michigan Works as she is a board member. Tina spoke about the impact to the current workforce due to retirements and workers that have not returned to the workforce due to COVID. Tina said that the new certificate programs “offer equitable access to training”.

Siena has also launched a new certificate program in Heath Care targeting mainly working adults. They will focus on upskilling current employees as well as adults who want to be more involved in workforce changes. Cindy said they have already enrolled their first person in their Surgical Tech Certification program and their first certificate has been approved for funding by the State of Michigan! The next areas SHU will be exploring developing certificates for include IT as well as Advanced Manufacturing, Cindy noted. People receiving certificates can easily move into their degree programs, Cindy said.

Detailed on the Career flyer Cindy handed out was a list of benefits to the workforce that participate in their programs that included:
  • All health care training programs are 100% online for optimum flexibility
  • Students can start at anytime and work at their own pace
  • Financing options include student loans, state assistance, ,military funding, and PayPal
  • Occupations in the healthcare field are some of the fastest growing in the US
Tina and Cindy would like to hear from Rotary Club members as to their needs that SHU can assist them with. If you have a need for a specific certificate, they would like to know.
