District Governor's Official Visit

Kim Spirou

Kim Spirou, the new District Governor of Rotary District 6400 was on hand today for her official visit to our club!

Kim has a passion for making an impact that matters. She has been involved in Rotary for over 30 years and is currently a member of the recently chartered Rotary Club of Tecumseh Lakeshore. Kim has participated in and led numerous international Rotary team trips in central America and Ghana where she has initiated projects in all of Rotary’s seven areas of focus.

Kim has served as an assistant governor, as a district trainer and she has served as club president three times. An ardent supporter of The Rotary Foundation Kim is a Paul Harris Fellow, Benefactor, Bequest Society member and a Major Donor.

Kim has earned many accolades and awards since joining Rotary. She has been named Rotarian of the Year, presented with the Council of Governor’s (COG) Award and in 2004, under her leadership, her club earned the prestigious D6400 Dick Hedke Award.

In 2021, recognizing her tremendous accomplishments and body of humanitarian service work, Rotary Zone 28 presented Kim with the prestigious Donald MacRae Peace Award for outstanding international service. In 2023, Kim received Rotary International’s highest honor for an individual Rotarian – The Service Above Self award.

Kim has enjoyed a 34-year career in the public relations field. As an internationally recognized communicator she has provided public relations support, expertise and training for numerous organizations in both the public and private sectors. In 2001, Kim established her own PR firm called Spirou & Associates. She has earned several awards for her work and was named Business Professional of the Year by the Windsor Essex Chamber of Commerce and Communicator of the Year by the Ontario Hospital Association.

The theme thus year for District 6400 is "Be a Difference Maker" and along with that read the famous story shown to the right and encouraged evertone of us to do the same.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR VETERAN ROTARIAN & FORMER CLUB SECRETARY

The Memorial Service for Allen is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd from 4-6PM at the lower level of the Adrian Armory.

DONATION REQUESTS AWARDED

Your Board today approved a request for $500 from thew Catherine Cobb Safe House for $500 and $1,000 to District 6400 for their District Conference Magazine.

TASTE OF LENAWEE

The club has purchased a table for 8. Please let President Rod know if you would like to go. We are just around the corner from Taste of Lenawee. On Friday September 18, from 6–9 p.m., we will have some of Lenawee's finest food establishments, providing samples of their delectables, along with live entertainment from "Linny and Mochie" talent. Enjoy drinks (open bar), music and conversation! The proceeds support the good works of the Adrian Armory Community Center and Launch Lenawee business development programs. Tickets are $75 or 2/$125, and can be purchased on our website or acquired through sponsorship support; the form is attached to this email. Hope to see you there!

PAUL HARRIS FELLOW PRESENTATIONS

A Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) recognition is one of the most prestigious honors in Rotary International. It is given to anyone who contributes $1,000 or more in their name to the Rotary Foundation. Named after Rotary's founder Paul Harris, the award was established in 1957 to appreciate and encourage major support for global humanitarian and educational programs.

TECUMSEH ROTARY CLUB BREAKFAST - Please help if you can.

Set up starts at about 5 a.m.

David Panian from the Tecumseh Rotary Club said: "The Ididit Car Show in Tecumseh. They provide all of the tables, chairs and tents. The main thing for us to do is preparing the food, juice and water, utensils, and service items. We have a Blackstone griddle for cooking the pancakes and sausages. We start serving at 7 a.m. for the vendors and exhibitors. The car show opens to the public at 8 a.m. We usually finish serving between 10 and 11, and we're done with teardown by noon. We were out of there by 11 last year.

We really only need six or seven people to run the breakfast, but if we have more people we can work in shifts and whoever isn't working can enjoy a breakfast or go check out the cars early. There should be more than 300 cars there, and it's not just the usual Mustangs, Corvettes and cars from the 1950s and '60s. They get unusual cars from Europe, custom builds and some that maybe don't seem like "classics." My favorite the past few years has been the early '70s Pinto wagon that looks a lot like the car my parents had when I was little."

ADRIAN CITY BAND

The band performs every Thursday evening at 7:30PM at the City Market pavilion on Toledo Street in downtown Adrian. A number of loyal members always volunteer every Thursday evening during the summer. Tonight is the last performance of this summer.

UPCOMING CLUB SOCIALS

REMEBER: Tomorrow night at the Pender's (545 Timber Lane, Brooklyn). Bring something to snack on and BYOB. Starts at 5 and ends at 7. The group will ten take off to hear a tribute band at the Chateau Aeronautique Winery, Blue Skies Brewery & Mile High Distillery (12000 Pentecost Hwy, Onsted, MI).

Then another social is scheduled for August 28th at Nelson & Connie Douglass' laker home - PARTY BOAT! BYOB. More info coming.

LAUNCH LENAWEE NETWORKING EVENT

Mary announced this a business networking event will take place on August 20th at the Adrian Armory & Events Center. Begins at 5PM on the Bravo Room. It will feature a number of small businesses. Come on over and hang out!
