Today was actually a Club Assembly in addition to Sinner of the Year and Perfect Participation Awards. Yours Truly kicked thing off by letting the audience know that the Public Relations Committee was working on the issue of identifying exactly who are club is and what do we do. Committee member, Jim Potthast, went on to explain further why this was necessary and asked those in attendance to take time to complete a very brief questionnaire that would help the PR Committee answer those questions and eventually develop a brief, consistent “elevator speech” all members could learn and respond to anyone asking them “So, what is the Adrian Noon Rotary Club and what do they do?”
Jim took us through a number of slides during his presentation and said the thrust of it would be to be able to tell others who are not familiar with Rotary what it is that we do in a short, concise sentence or two which would also be helpful when recruiting other members yet we say something different every other time!
“We have slogans and symbols everywhere! And, they change every year. But none of the capture who we are!” In his research on RI over the weekend, he said, he came upon two mottos. One read: He profits most who serves the best. He said that the exercise he was going to put us through should be fun. All ideas should fuel off another. We are in this together. It’s a total team effort, he said. The bottom line is: What is the message we want to deliver verbally, on social media, radio as well as print that communicates an emotional connection with others.
Take Harley for instance, they use words they live by in their communications like “ruggedness”, “adventuresome”, “strong”, “American”, and “rebel”. It’s the makings of an “elevator pitch”, Jim said. We’ll take everyone’s comments which will then be developed into a Marketing Plan. Prior to giving the audience a few minutes to complete the questionnaire, Jim concluded by saying that we are in need of additional people to serve on the PR Committee. Perfect Participation Awards

New Scholarship Announced – Prez Kathye mentioned, following the introduction of the 2 new Junior Rotarians today, that a new $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one of the Junior Rotarians attending our meetings this school year!
New District Directories – They have been releases! Be sure and get your copy at the head table next week.
2nd Annual Bike Tour – We are only 4 weeks away and $15,000+ has already been raised from sponsors and more expected. We encourage members to get on-line and sponsor a child for the Family Tour Event. Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 18 at Chip’s house at 5:30pm. We’ll be packing the Goodie Bags for all participants.

September 16 – District Governor’s Golf Outing – Visiting Plymouth Rotary Club member, Russ Jones, was on hand at today’s meeting to remind folks of the golf outing. $175/person (Canadian), dinner following (5:30 or 6pm) and is $55/person. All money raised stays in District 6400 and used for international grants and awarded to clubs in our district who apply and are approved.
September 20 – One Rotary Summit at Schoolcraft College in Livonia. Fees will be paid for all members attending. 5:30 – 8:30pm
September 22 – Lenawee Bike Tour – Only about 4 weeks away! Be sure and share on Facebook any promotions you see. You are also encouraged to register on the site – www.rotarylenaweebiketour.com even if you don’t plan to ride so we can give the registration away to someone deserving. See the new ad below which will be appearing in this Sunday’s newspaper and the following 2 Sundays after that. Be sure and take some of the full-color promo stock that is available and distribute.
September 27 - Financial Literacy Fair – Kathye announced for Patty Clark this week that this event will take place on Thursday, September 27th from 8am-12 noon. It’s a “Reality Fair”. More info coming.

2018-19 RI President Barry Rassin wants Rotary members to Be the Inspiration
Rassin, a member of the Rotary Club of East Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas, unveiled the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, to incoming district governors at Rotary’s International Assembly in San Diego, California, USA. “I want you to inspire in your clubs, your Rotarians, that desire for something greater. The drive to do more, to be more, to create something that will live beyond each of us.”
